On 14 May 2025, the GreenTrans-Edu (Green Transformation at Higher Education Institutions) consortium officially signed the Letter of Intent (LOI) for its SCOPE-HE grant during a workshop in Jakarta. The signing marks a major milestone for the consortium, which was selected as one of only three clusters to receive funding under the SCOPE-HE Programme, chosen from more than 120 project proposals.
The LOI was signed by Prof. Dr. Jens Wolling from Technische Universität Ilmenau (TUIL), serving as cluster lead, together with Dr. Kai Sicks, Secretary General of the DAAD. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Sujiro Seam, EU Ambassador to ASEAN; H.E. San Lwin, Deputy Secretary General for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community; and Ms. Brianda Zoet, Team Leader and Acting Manager of the Pillar Europe Programme at Nuffic.
In his remarks, Ambassador Seam highlighted that research and innovation are key priorities under the ASEAN–EU Strategic Partnership (2023–2027) and congratulated the Green Transformation Cluster for its outstanding achievement. He emphasized that cross-regional university networks play a vital role in addressing global sustainability challenges.
The GreenTrans-Edu project promotes research-based teaching in renewable energy (SDG 7), biodiversity and land use (SDG 15), and climate action, aiming to strengthen sustainability competencies in higher education.
The consortium brings together six higher education institutions from four countries: TUIL and Fachhochschule Erfurt (FHE) from Germany, Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC) from France, Mindanao State University (MSU) from the Philippines, and Universitas Pancasila (UP) and President University (PU) from Indonesia. Through this partnership, the consortium seeks to enhance EU–ASEAN collaboration and foster innovative, sustainable solutions in education and research.
